| This Swift had a sister bus YRT 896H operated by Brutonian Bus Company in Somerset between 1978-81, which also was new to Lowestoft in 1969. YRT 896H met an unfortunate end, when the Brutonian driver Gordon Tozer struck the scaffolding of the Old Post Office building at the end of Bruton High Street, destorying one of the key window support pillars, rendering it unsafe. It was stripped of seats in 1981 and a married couple set about turning it into a mobile home. I worked on the Brutonian fleet between 80-82. The Brutonian Swift was not a reliable vehicle, so I am not sure how 'mobile' a home it was for the new owners. |

| Does anyone know, Nigel, when the last swift of great yarmouth transport had it's last day in service and therefore, was withdrawn and taken away to never come back and see the revamped, harder to park into, great yarmouth bus station. |

| Hi Terence, Apologies for delay replying. Been searching my records and I don't have a last day in service date for the Swifts. I can tell you that 83 was the last to be operational. Withdrawn due to faulty diff, only to be reinstated after a replacement was taken out of 85. Withdrawn shortly afterwards with head gasket problems. That was the summer of 1996. |

Not up on my Nottingham Buses. So its either a rare, beast Leyland Lion or a bit more common Volvo Citybus? Nottingham |
|
|
|---|
| This is indeed a rare leyland lion built to Nottinghams design.
The volvo citybuses are 301-329 (B301-7KVO, C308-14 NRC, E315-29 BVO)
The 13 leyland lions are 382-394 (F382-90 GVO and D391-4 TAU) |

| Hi,
Just a quick reply to your message on my fotopic site.
The AEC Mammoth Major was in 2004, and probably still is, part of Carters Steam Fair. See below for website address.
http://www.carterssteamfair.co.uk/
The whole entourage is a sight to behold. From the Scammell trucks down to the ice cream van (a Morris Commercial if I recall), through to the Steam Fair itself. You don't have to be a road transport enthusiast to appreciate it.

| Or to put it more clearer, and with more detail, this vehicle is an Eastern Coachworks H39/31F bodied Bristol VRTSL2/6LX Series 2 with fleetnumber VR385. new to RIBBLE Motor services at Carlisle in 1972 with fleetnumber 1985 and moved on to Eastern Counties ownership in 1985. It wasn't until 1996 that First (new owners of Eastern Counties Omnibus Company) withdrew the bus from service and it was seen, heard about and brought by a group of East Anglia Transport Museum members who restored it back to it's Eastern Counties high standard origional condition. |
