From the early days of purchase the engine was smokey. But it run, so I run it. To be honest the smoke was a bit much. So i took the plunge and did an emgine refurbishment. The DPA pump was overhauled, injectors overhauled. Then I took the heads off to find a cracked head and blown head gasket. The daft thing is it was still a runner upto taking the heads off! beats me why. Anyway a couple of refubed heads and anew gaket set. Back together and working well.
